I Exposed Torture and Rape in the Xinjiang Camps: The CCP Wants Me Back

03/31/2022Ulnur Bozhykhan |

To stop me from telling the truth about its crimes, the Party is trying to manipulate my ex-husband and my sister to get me back to China.

by Ulnur Bozhykhan

Ulnur Bozhykhan, previously detained in Xinjiang camps, asks: “Stop harassing me and my relatives”.
Ulnur’s appeal to China: “Stop harassing me and my relatives”.

If you read this magazine, you probably know who I am. My husband, Turarbek Kusainov, wrote a biographical essay about me, based on true facts about the humiliation and violence I had been subjected to from the Chinese Communists, including torture and rape. It was published in Bitter Winter on February 7, 2022, and is, in fact, a small book. The book includes the story of my difficult relationship with my abusive ex-husband, Khassen Sagatzhan, and of the terrible year I spent when I was detained in East Turkestan (Ch. Xinjiang) by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

In a previous article, I reported how ever since my biography was published and widely read in Bitter Winter, the Chinese Communist authorities have been harassing my closest relatives, explicitly referring to that publication. Now, as the Bitter Winter biography and subsequent article continue to gather readers, the CCP wants me back in China.

In particular, the Chinese government deliberately uses my son’s father, i.e., my ex-husband Khassen Sagatzhan. Khassen, who did not look for me for ten years, suddenly began to bother me on WeChat, suddenly became interested in my life, and is trying to win my favor with him.

As Khassen admitted, some members of the CCP of Kunes county came to his place asking if he wanted to reunite with his ex-wife Ulnur again. They asked him a strange question, whether he was ready for family life with his ex-wife if they delivered her back from Kazakhstan to China.

Khassen began to ask me to forgive him for all his past bullying, forget about everything, said that he loves me and that I will not get any benefit by going against China, and offered to reunite again.

And he also said that he had collected all our family photos and that he kept my cut hair, and put all this material in a bundle, and turned to a magician to use magic to return me to him. As proof of this, he sent me a video with a ritual of magic. But in fact it is not magic trying to compel me to go back to China, it is the CCP.

My ex-husband also said that he could not live without me, that he was very sorry for his past mistakes, and begged me to return to China. Khassen also said that if I didn’t come to China, he would marry my elder sister Marziya, and again he tried to humiliate me.

In addition, he said that he had given a large sum of money to Marziya. Assuming this is true, I am absolutely sure that he himself, being unemployed, could not give such a large amount to my sister, and all his actions were supported and instructed by the Chinese government.

The fact that my ex-husband Khasen after so many years started calling me on WeChat, either gently persuading me, or threatening that he would marry my sister—these are all political tricks of the CCP.  In this regard, I declare and appeal to the international community and international human rights organizations that the Chinese Communists are a threat to my human rights and my personal life. I’m asking you to influence the CCP to stop persecuting my relatives who live in the Kunes county of Xinjiang.

Ulnur Bozhykhan was born on June 28, 1988, in the village of Kensu in the Kunes county of the Ili-Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture of Xinjiang Autonomous Region (East Turkestan). In 2018, she was accused of having contacts with dissidents and was taken to a transformation through education camp, where she was tortured and raped. In 2019, after a campaign on her behalf by the independent Kazakh human rights organization Atajurt, she was allowed to move to Kazakhstan. She told her story, as told to her husband, author Turarbek Kusainov, in February 2022 in Bitter Winter.
