A Christian woman from Henan’s Gongyi city was arrested recently and tortured for information.
On June 22, the police arrested Liu Chunmei (pseudonym) from her home in Henan’s Gongyi city. She was kept in detention for close to 20 days, during which the police tortured her at length.
When initial interrogation proved to be fruitless, Ms. Liu was shifted to a room without a camera. There, officers would yank her by her hair and kick her in the back. An officer, who was in his forties, repeatedly punched her in the chest. After a while, she was unable to breathe properly. The officer told her, “If everyone believed in God, who would believe in the Communist Party? This is why the state is targeting the believers. You’re forbidden from believing.”
However, Ms. Liu still wouldn’t reveal any information. One officer beat her with his belt on her arms, legs, and face. Her body was left swollen and sore as a result. Further, she wasn’t allowed to sleep, eat, or drink either.
On July 8, authorities released Ms. Liu. But she still wasn’t free. When she returned home, she found a tracking device installed on her bicycle. At present, village cadres and officers in plainclothes are also monitoring her round the clock.
