A police officer faked to have accepted the gospel and gained the trust of a house church in Zhijiang city of Hubei Province, which has led to the arrest of some members of the congregation.
67-year-old Song Zhengying (pseudonym) is a co-worker at a Great Praise Church. Almost two years ago, in November 2016, two electricians were fixing power lines outside her home and asked her for a drink of water. Ms. Song invited them to stay for dinner, during which she shared the gospel with them that the two men accepted. Afterward, at the invitation by Ms. Song, they attended two church gatherings.
A week later, one of the two men and 13 church members were at a gathering in Song Zhengying’s home. The man said that he needed to make a phone call and left the room while the rest were praying. Less than ten minutes later, four local police officers showed up at the place and took away Song Zhengying and another believer in handcuffs to the police station. The man pretending to be electrician turned out to be an undercover police officer; he immediately left the house and hid himself in a police car.
At the police station, the two arrested women were questioned separately, police officers stressing to them repeatedly that the belief in in God was disrupting social order. When their interrogation yielded no results, the women were released.
