Party cadres in a Jiangxi village seized a Christian congregation site and are now using it for their work now.
In June, believers were in a congregation at a house church in Jiangxi’s Fuzhou city, when the area’s village Party secretary reported them to the police. The church was swiftly shut down and sealed off. The believers were threatened that if they met there again, they would be fined 60,000 RMB and thrown in prison.
Three days later, the village Party secretary sought out the church head, and threatened, “If you don’t sign over the congregation site to us for use as an office, then we’ll get an excavator and knock it down.” The believers never agreed to his demands, but he took control of the site anyway. He also removed the cross of the church.
By the end of the month, village cadres had repainted the site and put up the village committee sign. Shut down and seized illegally, it is now being used to Chinese Communist Party work in the village.
