A source told Bitter Winter that, on May 6, 2018, government officials in the county of Mianchi, Henan, broke into a Christian’s house and ravaged religious possessions.
A little past 11:00 a.m, Fan Yuling (pseudonym, female) came back home after a religious meeting, only to find that her house was a complete mess. A cross stitch plaque on the wall with four Chinese characters meaning “Emmanuel” had been destroyed, the frame thrown on the bed, and the embroidery gone. Two religious calendar posters were also torn off the wall.
Fan Yuling’s youngest son (about 10 years old) was at home and witnessed the process. He said village officials and the people they brought with them did it.
Fan shot a video of the damaged house and sent it to some friends. Later, she called the police. However, the police did not seem bothered and no one came. Fan then called the Yinghao Town Police Station but the phone could not get through. Later, she contacted the police in Mianchi County. The police officers refused to intervene, and even put Fan’s telephone number on the blacklist.
On the next afternoon, Fan visited the Village Party Branch Secretary, hoping he could handle the matter. However, the Secretary gave her a harsh scolding. Fan was so angry that she had a nervous breakdown, became half paralyzed, and had to be hospitalized.
