A source told Bitter Winter that, on April 20, 2018, the vice-principal of a school in the city of Gongyi in Henan Province ordered a student to change clothes because she wore a jacket with a cross pattern.

It is worth noting that this school does not have uniforms, and that more “fancy” clothing has been allowed there, the problem in this case being the cross.

On the day of the incident, the girl wore a black denim jacket that had a big orange knitted cross on the back. The vice-principal ordered the girl to change it. The girl was confused and asked what was wrong with the jacket. The vice-principal said in a harsh voice, “Don’t you know the school does not allow students to wear clothes with the cross pattern? Now go back to your dorm and get changed!” From then on, the girl never dared to wear that jacket.
