In three years, a member of the Church of Almighty God from Zhongshan city has been arrested twice for her belief; she was sentenced to six years in prison.
Zhu Guangjuan, a member of the Church of Almighty God, or CAG, was arrested for the first time in 2014. After her second arrest in 2017, the Zhongshan City First People’s Court in Guangdong Province sentenced her to three years and six months in prison for “using a xie jiao (heterodox teachings) organization to undermine law enforcement” on September 26, 2018. This new sentence, combined with another, earlier one also for three years, the court decided to give Zhu Guangjuan a term of six years in prison in total; she was also fined 3,000 RMB (about $435).
According to sources, since August 2014, Zhu Guangjuan has been tracked and arrested by plainclothes police while she was on the way to a church meeting venue. After Zhu Guangjuan had been locked up for one month, she was released, technically, on bail. But in actuality, police transferred her to a “legal education center” in Guangdong province to be subjected to forced intensive indoctrination and transformation. During the indoctrination, she was monitored by a female assistant 24 hours a day and prohibited from taking even half a step out of her room. On November 7, after enduring nearly two months of mental torture, Zhu Guangjuan was able to return home.
On November 13, 2015, Zhongshan City First People’s Court sentenced Zhu Guangjuan to her first three years in prison, with a three-year probation, for the crime of “using a xie jiao organization to undermine law enforcement.” On August 10, 2017, before her probation had ended, the police suddenly came to her home, arrested her and detained her at the Zhongshan City Detention Center. On September 26, the court sentenced Zhu Guangjuan to six years in prison for the crime of “using a xie jiao organization to undermine law enforcement.” She won’t be released until July 9, 2023.
In the newest judgment, the Zhongshan City First People’s Court also accused Zhu Guangjuan of writing an article describing her experience of persecution when she was arrested by authorities for the first time and submitted it to the Church. As some members of the Church rightly say: The CCP is afraid of the truth about its persecution of Christians being exposed.
The Church of Almighty God suffers severely from the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) persecution. Numerous CAG members have been arbitrarily detained by authorities and sentenced to lengthy prison terms. As Bitter Winter has reported extensively, some of them have even been tortured to the point of disability or even death.
