The police in China’s southern Guangdong province detained a Christian couple that was advocating against abortion in a local park last Friday, reports ChinaAid.

Liang Ziliang, a preacher at a Baptist Church in Heshan, Guangdong, his wife Li Yinxiu, and several church members, were handing out brochures about Christianity and carrying banners protesting against abortion when the police started photographing them. The same night, Liang and Li were called to the police station, where they were detained. After their arrest, officers searched their home without a warrant.

On June 6, the family of the detained preacher received two criminal detention notices that accuse Liang and Li of violating Article 80 of China’s Criminal Law and organizing and financially supporting illegal gatherings. They are currently being held at the Heshan Municipal Detention Center.
